Brazilians will need authorization before entering Europe, from 2023

  • by

Anyone who plans to visit any of the best tourist destinations in Europe in 2023 needs to be aware of a new procedure that starts in May next year. All travelers to the European Union will be required to apply for authorization before departure, which also includes a fee.

This authorization is called ETIAS (which, in English, stands for the European Travel Information and Authorization System). It needs to be applied for online and there is a charge of 7 Euros. This document allows travelers to enter for tourist, commercial, transit or medical purposes. Minors and the elderly (over 70) also need an authorization, but they do not have to pay the fee.

Like everything when travelling abroad, it is vital to prepare in advance. The sooner you apply, the better; as the process can take up to four weeks. If your application is refused, you can appeal to the authorities in the county that considered it.

According to the European Commission., the travel authorization is designed to help tourists from countries that do not need a visa to enter Europe and to reduce the time spent in immigration at the airports. The local authorities also emphasize that ETIAS is not a visa. Visit the ETIAS website to find out more information.

Up to May 2023, Brazilians will not need to produce anything other than their passport to visit countries in the European Union, for 90 days or less. However, it is still important to be aware of the different measures each country has taken to deal with the pandemic or other issues.
